Reasonable Global Way Core Values

Version 1.2 July 2016                                    Previous Version

Our analysis leads us to the core values below.  We do not begin with these values or assume them.  We explain how we arrive at them and how we can justify them.

We encourage each person to make up their own minds based on our explanations.  We are confident most people will find most of these values consistent with their own.

Truth:

We believe it is valid to seek and speak the truth, which we can approach with reason and evidence, and we know some things are definitely wrong.

Diversity:

We live with uncertainty, knowing others have different views, that we may change our own views: we value informed diversity that allows growth.

Reality:

A shared, natural, public reality is the basis for all our communications, despite uncertainty, cultural differences, social constructs and subjectivity.

Life:

We choose to pursue life’s struggle; we value all life, especially human life, recognising people’s rights to be responsible for their own lives.

Love:

We choose the path of compassion, for our fellow human beings and all sentient life, which implies understanding, respect and self-control.

Beauty:

We value our shared, subjective, sense of beauty, in nature: its majesty, awe, and mystery; in artistic works; and in freely expressing ourselves.

Responsibility:

We choose to accept personal responsibility, in how we use our freedoms, and to join in the struggle for the good, based on effective accountability.

Equality:

We choose to participate in society, based on security, accountability, liberty, justice and mercy, human rights and secular liberal democracy.

Hope:

We value knowing that our beliefs and values are a reasonable global way, that positive action is valid and worthwhile: this gives us courage to act.
